Reigning English Champions, Manchester city had their hopes of doing a treble of titles dashed on Friday night as Wolves became only the second E nglish team to do a double over Pep Guardiola in the league.
The match began under controversial circumstances as, Manchester City goal keeper, Ederson was sent off barely 10 minutes into the match for a foul on Diogo Jota. Striker, Aguero was axed to make way for second goal keeper, Claudio Bravo.
Five minutes before half-hour mark, Raheem Sterling put the visitors ahead through a VAR assisted penalty in the 25th minute.
The England international failed to convert the kick as Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio saved the ball from crossing his goal-line.
However, the penalty was retaken after the technology spotted an encroachment from the home team, but this time, Sterling needed a rebound from the keeper’s effort before finding the back of the net.
Guardiola’s men took the one-goal advantage into the dressing room with the hope of managing the game with one match down.
Sterling doubled the lead five minutes later and what followed was a three minute goal thriller in which Manchester city went from being 2 goals up to losing 3-2.
Adanma Traore scored for the hosts in the 56th minute, Raul Jimenez equalized 5 minutes later and Matt Doherty won the game for the hosts in the dying minutes.
The game leaves Liverpool 13 points ahead at the top of the table with no team in sight to catch them.
Liverpool who have already won the Super Cup and Club world cup this season may just add the premier league to the bag.
