A 27- year – old Kano Road Traffic Agency official, Tijjni Adamu , was on Tuesday crushed to death by a motorist , who was attempting to evade arrest .

The incident , according to an eyewitness , occurred on the Airport Road when the late Adamu was in the process of arresting the motorist for beating the traffic light .

In order to ensure that the motorist did not escape, the KAROTA official forced his way into the front seat of the vehicle and ordered him to drive to the agency ’ s head office on the Club Road , an order the motorist resisted .

Following the resistance, the KORATA official disembarked and went to the front of the vehicle and began to remove the number plate .

“ While he was busy dismantling the number plate , the angry driver crushed the KAROTA official in the process , ” the eyewitness narrated .

He added that good Samaritans in the area and the colleagues of the late KAROTA official rushed him to a nearby hospital , where he was pronounced dead on arrival .

In the ensuing confusion, the motorist escaped and had not been arrested as of the time of filing this report .

The Public Relations Officer of the agency , Nabilusi Kofa Na’ sa , who confirmed the incident , stated that the matter had been reported to the police , who promised to investigate it and spread their dragnet to arrest the fleeing driver and bring him to justice .

The spokesman for the Kano State Police Command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, who confirmed the incident , said the outgoing Commissioner of Police , Ahmed Iliyasu , had ordered a discreet investigation into the incident and ordered his men to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the fleeing driver.

Meanwhile , Adamu ’ s remains have been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic injunctions.
