A 49th birthday , the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land , Aare Gani Adams , entered a battle with the Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom, Oba Obateru Akinruntan, for allegedly installing some persons as Yoruba monarchs in Diaspora.
The furious Aare urged the South – West governors and traditional rulers to caution Oba Akinruntan before it is too late .
He had said , “This imprudence is fraudulent, a clear and present danger that can destroy our tradition if something is not done urgently .
I urge South – West governors , especially Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, and Yoruba monarchs, to please call him to order immediately before it is too late . ”
Adams also told HIGH SOCIETY that a similar thing happened when the Oluwo of Iwo land , Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi , was asked to install a Yoruba oba in France .
He stated, “ Rather than the Oluwo doing what the Olugbo just did , the Iwo monarch resisted and said he would never go against the wishes of the Yoruba obas . Oba Akanbi knew what was right from what was wrong . ”
He added that if Akinruntan was a student of history he would know that those who tried to betray the Yoruba race didn’ t end well .
He said , “ Against all known laws and customs of our land , Akinruntan crowned three characters living abroad as traditional rulers .
The three ‘ chiefs’ have no royalty in their blood .
As the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land , I want to tell Akinruntan that he only crowned these characters as chiefs in his domain, not as Yoruba obas in the diaspora , because he doesn ’ t have the power.
It is fraudulent, an affront on our history and we will not allow anybody to distort our history. ”
But the tense atmosphere was not enough to stop Adams from throwing a lavish party to celebrate his birthday at the Times Square Events Centre in Ikeja , Lagos .
At the party , which attracted influential persons, Adams said he didn’ t invite people to give a long speech but to have fun .
He didn’ t fail on his promise as it was excitement from the beginning to the end .
Some of the guests at the event included the Iyaloja of Oyo Kingdom , Chief Adepeju Bakare ; the President – General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Dr Rafiu Ladipo ; the President of Women Arise for Change Initiative and the Campaign for Democracy , Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin; the National President , Arewa United Consultative Forum, Alhaji Ado Dansudu ; the Olowa of Igbara Oke , Oba Francis Agbede , and the Zaki of Argidi Kingdom , Oba Yisa Olanipekun .
