A woman has died , while her daughter was injured in a lone accident on the Ijebu- Ode -Benin Expressway in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State on Sunday afternoon .
The fatal accident occurred when a Lexus jeep with two occupants plunged into Ososa river in Odogbolu as the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle .
The state Public Relations Officer of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency , Babatunde Akinbiyi , confirmed the incident.
Akinbiyi said the accident occurred at 2 : 40pm on Sunday and that it involved a Jeep marked JJJ 930 FL.
According to Akinbiyi , the accident was caused as a result of over – speeding which prompted the vehicle to fall into the river.
He said the TRACE learnt that the vehicle was coming from Lekki in Lagos and was heading to Ijebu- Ode when the accident happened .
Akinbiyi further explained , “ There were two occupants in the vehicle — the driver , who is a woman, and her daughter , who is a student of Tai Solarin University of Education .
“ The woman was taking her daughter back to school.
“ The woman lost control of the vehicle and plunged into the river. ”
Akinbiyi added that the daughter is receiving treatment at the Ijebu- Ode General Hospital.
“The accidented vehicle has been removed from the river and deposited at the Motor Traffic Division Odogbolu, ” he said .
