JUST IN: Yet Another Victory For Atiku, As Tribunal Rules In His Favour

There have been a lot of back and forth since President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was declared to be the winner of the February 23, Presidential Polls. A lot of reactions have been generated from different sources.

While the All Progressives Congresss (APC), and members of the party, have said the victory was a good one as it showed that Nigerians were comfortable with the policies of the President.

On the other hand, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), together with its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had described the victory as a sham and have gone to the courts seeking to upturn the elections and claim their ‘stolen mandate’.

Just in from The Court of Appeal in Abuja, reports have it that, on Wednesday the Appeal Court granted permission to the main opposition party in the country, the Peoples Democratic Party, together with its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to go ahead and serve their petition which seeks to challenge the outcome of the February 23, 2019 Presidential election, on President Muhammadu Buhari via substituted means.

A three-man bench which sat in a “pre-hearing session” of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, granted the prayer which was contained in the petitioners’ ex parte application that Buhari, who is the second respondent to the petition, be served via any senior official or an officer of the All Progressives Congress at the party’s secretariat in Abuja.

While granting the ex parte application, Justice Abdu Aboki, who is the leader of the panel, delivered the lead ruling, saying, “it is in the interest of justice” to grant the prayers in the petitioners’ application.

Chief Chris Uche (SAN), who was the petitioners’ lead counsel, had moved the application earlier.

On March 18, 2019, the petitioners had filed their case to counter the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of Buhari and his party, the APC, as the winner of the election.

In the lawsuit, INEC, Buhari and the APC are the first, second and third respondents respectively.
