The Police have arrested no fewer than 105 suspected political thugs for various electoral offences during Saturday ’ s governorship and state assembly elections in Imo State.
The suspects were said to have been arrested for snatching ballot boxes , disrupting elections, harassing electoral officials and impersonating policemen.
The Imo State Commissioner of Police , Dazuki Galadanchi, who disclosed this on Sunday , explained that investigations had commenced into the various offences allegedly committed by the suspects in custody .
He stated that the poll was largely hitch- free and smooth across the state , adding that investigation had commenced into the killing of one person at Umudi, Nkwerre Local Government Area.
He said , “We have 105 suspects in custody . They were arrested for various electoral offences during the elections. ”
Meanwhile , the delay in the collation and declaration of results is generating anxiety across the state .
Findings indicate that results from the polling booths were still being collated at the local government areas, sparking fears that the delay might be orchestrated to manipulate the outcomes .
Sources in the Independent National Electoral Commission said the final results were expected to be ready by 12: 00 p. m .
