Three persons have been injured and vehicles vandalised in communities in Nsit – Antai Local Government of Akwa Ibom State , following a clash between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressive Congress .
The incident, it was gathered, disrupted electoral process in Ibakang ward Unit 007 .
A stalwart of the APC , Ndem Edem , who disclosed this to our correspondent during the monitoring of election in the area , said two of those affected by the attack have been taken to Methodist Hospital in Uyo for treatment .
He said , “There is no peace here. My people cannot come out to vote for fear of intimidation and harassment. Look at what they have done to my people ”
One of the affected persons , Vincent Eyo, who sustained an injury on the head said he lost his ATM card , and two phones in the crisis .
He said all the registered voters in the affected wards could not go out to cast their votes out of fear and intimidation .
A PDP stalwart and member of the Akwa State House of Assembly representing Nsit -Antai Constituency , Mr Mike Eshiet , who also spoke on the crisis said trouble started when they received intelligence that thugs allegedly hired by APC were coming in to disrupt elections.
He said the youth mobilised and formed themselves into a vigilance group to stop the aggression but they were rebuffed by the APC thugs .
“ The incident happened last night when we heard that some thugs belonging to APC were coming to the community to throw explosives and disrupt the election .
“ So our youths mobilised themselves to prevent them from coming in but the APC members resisted the move. ”
H, however, r described the election as generally peaceful in the area .
