A factional governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu , has adopted the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement , Adekunle Akinlade.

This was after a Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to dissolve the primaries that elected Adebutu as the party ’ s governorship candidate in the state .
A factional Chairman of the PDP in the state , Dr Sikirulai Ogundele , while addressing the press at the Park Inn Hotel , Kuto , Abeokuta , said Adebutu , and the PDP under his leadership adopted Akinlade because of the latter’ s credibility .

He said he could not support another factional governorship candidate of the PDP , Senator Buruji Kashamu , alleging that he was a dropout.

Ogundele said , “ Ladi Adebutu and the entire PDP of Ogun State that I am leading have adopted Adekunle Akinlade , based on his credibility , uprightness , responsiveness, and calmness.

“ The candidate that is being influenced by the APC to be our candidate is not credible enough. I attended a university and I have my PhD , so I cannot campaign for somebody that is just a dropout.
Kashamu , while reacting to the development , said the endorsement was not in the interest of the people of the state or the PDP.

The senator , who spoke through his aide , Austin Oniyokor , alleged that Adebutu agreed to endorse Akinlade after signing a memorandum of understanding with the APM candidate , in which he (Adebutu ) was promised government appointments.

He said , “ It was because they lost in court again. All of these things are borne out of selfish interest . It is not in the interest of the people or the party .

If not, somebody will not be going to negotiate for appointments. We have all the evidence. ”

He shared with our correspondent a document purportedly signed by Adebutu and Akinlade and some witnesses in which the former was promised government appointments.
Adebutu was allegedly promised two commissioner slots, three senior special assistant slots , two special advisers, five special assistant slots.
On the list was also chairman of SUBEB or local government service commission , chairman of OPIC or DG lands, among others.

The media aide to Adebutu , Dayo Rufai, said he was not privy to the MoU that led to the alliance between Adebutu and Akinlade.

Rufai said , “ I am privy to the fact that Ladi Adebutu has adopted APM and Akinlade ; he has also instructed his people to vote for APM on Saturday . But I am not privy to the MoU that exchanged hands between my principal (Adebutu ) and Akinlade . ”
