The crisis rocking the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria deepened on Wednesday with some leaders of the party kicking against the decision of the National Chairman , Gani Galadima, to endorse President Muhammadu Buhari for the February 16 presidential election .
The party leaders, under the aegis of Concerned National Executives of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria , made their position known in a statement in Abuja .
The statement was jointly signed by the party ’ s National Treasurer , Chief Angus Uzoamaka ; Chairman , South -East Zone , Chief I. K .
Okagbu ; and the Assistant Director -General , South – East Campaign , Dr F. U. A . Nwanebu.
The party leaders backed the party ’ s former presidential candidate , Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili’ s position, accusing the party leadership of greed .
They said they decided to support Ezekwesili’ s withdrawal from the race after discovering Galadima’ s antics .
They alleged that Galadima and others refused to give account of all the funds , including those paid by all candidates for various positions .
They disclosed that it took them many weeks to convince Ezekwesili to contest the presidential election on the party ’ s platform.
The leaders said the former minister later agreed after they had made commitments to ensure due process , transparency and internal party democracy among others.
They added , “It was immediately after the convention of October 7 , 2018 that the National Chairman , Alhaji Ganiyu Galadima ; National Secretary , Paul Alhasan Isamade ; Alhaji Maikasuwa Goroyo , and Alhaji Otumba Bosun, sensing there would be huge inflow of funds to the coffers of ACPN , decided to frustrate , annihilate , exclude and avoid all other National Working Committee members of the party in most articulate and decisive meetings with the presidential candidate and her team .
“ All the money paid into ACPN – FCMB Bank account by the Oby Ezekwesili’ s campaign donors , including those paid by all candidates for various positions , have never been accounted for, and have been hijacked by Alhaji Ganiyu Galadima and others by their arbitrary and unexplainable withdrawals and expenditures without informing the national treasurer , who is also a third signatory to the party account .
“These four men resorted to arbitrary issuance of suspension letters to national executive members who they perceived would xzprobe or question these nefarious activities and hidden agenda to maliciously truncate the presidential campaign programme of Ezekwesili, including extortion of money from APC or other willing tools of corrupt alliance to undo Nigerians. ”
But , Galadima told them the and report gather that he would not respond to the claims by the group because he would be having a press conference over the matter on Thursday (today ).
Galadima said , “We also have our own press conference tomorrow (Thursday ). When we see , we will also speak .
What do you want me to say ? Where did you get the press statement ?
