UTME: Lagos tops as JAMB registers 1.2m candidates in 22 days

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has registered 1, 205, 187 candidates between 10 January and 1 February 2019 in the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration exercise.

The Board, which made this known in its weekly bulletin made available to newsmen in Abuja by its Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said Lagos State with 161, 654 so far has the highest number of candidates follow by Kaduna and Oyo states with 76, 049 and 57, 616 respectively.

Zamfara State with 3,349 has the least number of candidates registered in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres located in the state and closely follow by Sokoto- 6,960 and Kebbi State-9,599.

Other states with reasonable high number of candidates include FCT-Abuja -56,132, Rivers- 5,119, Ogun-48,617 and Nasarawa with 45,616.

The examination body also revealed that it has further suspended three more CBT centres for violating laid down rules guarding the registration exercise, bringing the total number to 12.

The Board listed the three newly suspended CBT centres to include that of Evangel University, Okpoto, Ebonyi State, College of Education, Ikare, Ekiti State and St Silas Anglican Secondary School, Omuooke, Ekiti State.

JAMB, which also announced the reinstatement of the CBT centre located in Rajib Computer Academy, Jos, Plateau State, said the 12 suspended centres committed offences ranging from unauthorised use of registration SIM in manner inimical to candidates interest to charging candidates higher than the authorised fees, among others.
